Candles lit, cup of tea made, copy of Marie Curie: A Biography ready to be read.  Earth Hour, ready to go.

And yes, I know it's not that significant of a movement.  But it's a bit fun to be part of a world-wide thing, and it's a nice change to go so completely offline and powered down.  :D

Have a nice evening, all!

Earth Hour

Just realized that Earth Hour is tonight from 8:30-9:30 pm.  Think I'll do what I did year before last and light every candle I have in the apartment and enjoy a power-free night!

Actually, this wasn't uncommon when I lived in Kingston, ON.  We had a lot of power outtages there, so I always had candles around and a lighter kept very strictly in one place at all times.  Frustrating, but nice every once and a while.  We don't generally have as much trouble with the power here in Manitoba.

Happy Earth Hour, everyone!

For many personal and environmental reasons, I'm making an effort to switch to more green/eco-friendly/organic products.  It's a slow process, and while I'm essentially homeless and drifting, it's hard to keep up with.  I've thrown out 5-6 disposable coffee cups in the last couple weeks, which annoys me as I'm usually good about keeping my travel mug with me.  At the moment, I have no idea where it is.  >:(

For a while now, I've been trying to find a deodorant and antiperspirant that is aluminum-free.  I've tried a few products, and have never been happy with them.  Recently, I picked up a stick of Green Beaver natural deodorant (citrus), and based on what a few people mentioned, was really hopeful for this one.

Excerpt from the back:
Unique anti-odour complex composed of natural citrus enzymes and lichen provides extra
protection for active people.  Camomile and aloe will help soothe sensitive skin.

Maybe I'm just a major stink machine, but this stuff sucks.  The plus side is that it smells lovely on the stick, goes on smooth, and doesn't irritate at all.  The down side is it does absolutely nothing to prevent odour except put a slight citrus scent to the BO.  'Long-lasting protection'?  Yeah no, none whatsoever.

Dammit.  Back to my aluminum-y Degree stick.

ETA: I really should've researched this product before buying it.  I found a review here that basically felt the same way as I do about it.  In my defense, it was a bit of an impulse buy, since I stumbled across it at a local organic shop the other day.  Oh well, next time I'll buy smarter.
