Have successfully made it to Ottawa in one piece and with all my luggage (always a concern), and am now situated quite comfortably on a (very cozy homg I need to steal this thing) futon in my buddies basement, keeping company with a couple giant rabbits.  If no one else got Easter chocolates delivered, it's because the Easter Bunny is here along with her floppy-eared assistant.

Gonna stay here until Tuesday, when I catch an earlier train into Kingston, where I will then house- and bunny-sit for a different buddy.  This guy, Bonkers, is a little smaller, though.  Not the Monsterous Beasts that are the Easter Bunnies.  :D

Giving up on packing (for now) and am headed out for drinks with the girls.  Sadly, my organizational skills sucks, because I totally didn't realize it was Grey Cup tonight, so of course the bars are going to be packed with football fanatics.  IN FACT, we are starting at a place that is indeed called Fanatics.

Should be fun.

Actually, it probably will be!  Like any sport, I don't mind football with a group.  Err...American (or Canadian! :D) football, for those international readers.  The only problem I have is that the Saskatchewan Roughriders are playing tonight, and they are the sworn enemy of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  But I'd rather see the cup go to a prairie team than an eastern team like the Montreal Alouettes.  I band together with our buddy Saskatchewan on principle at any other time, so I guess I'm figuratively wearing green tonight (I'm actually wearing burgandy, but that's besides the point).

Although honestly, I'm there for the beer.

Or chocolate martini.

Relevant quote is relevant, yo.

Managed to get down to the geograds coffee time (held every Wednesday afternoon) today.  Yesterday?  Wednesday anyways.  Man does time go funny when you're on nights.  It's not tomorrow until you sleep, in my books!

ANYWAYS, it was nice to see a few folks I haven't seen in ages, and got a chance to talk to the woman whose spare bedroom I am stealing using next week.  She had assumed I was going to be around a lot longer than I am, so obviously I need to work on my communication skills some more.

I also met up with a friend for coffee this afternoon, which turned into dinner with him and another friend at the Keg.  Mmm steak.  I have missed you.  Oh, and my friends, too.  ;)

(I think I might need a 'babble' tag, although maybe that just falls under 'master of bs'.)

ETA: It's 4 am, and half the chapter is DONE (or at least, as done as it's going to get unless I have some spare time tomorrow).  Debating on staying up a bit longer and plowing through some of the second half, or going to bed because whoa man I'm tired, and my right eyeball is trying to twitch out of it's socket.  Plus I sort of look like death, and was pretty disturbed when I saw myself in the mirror last bathroom break.

Bed or work, bed or work, bed or work.

Hmm...think I know which is going to win this battle.

Heh.  Found on facebook.  Made me laugh like a loon at 4 am when I realized it was totally true.  Also made me laugh like a loon at 10 am and again this afternoon, so figured I'd share here.  ^__^

Even after drinking a cup of coffee and watching an episode of Red Green (best show on TV, tru fax), my brain still does not want to focus.  Therefore, I think it's time for:

AN ADVENTURE!    (heh, that was fun to colour)

Or probably, more likely, a walk and some fresh air.  But honestly, at this stage of the game, that's basically the same thing.  ;D

After coming down off of a really stressful couple of weeks, these comics made me lol forever.  Cripes, did I ever need that.  :D

Off on an adventure to Ottawa to play cheerleader for a friend in a beer pouring competition.  A Beer Pouring Competition.  How cool is that?  :D

...or at least, a picnic in Victoria Park. :)

Art by Valerie Woelk

Since the weather here has been absolutely lovely, and because I've been wanting an excuse to laze about in a park, I decided to plan a picnic with 30 of my closest friends in Kingston tomorrow at the beautiful Victoria Park.

According to the facebook event I made, as of this evening, four people are confirmed and one more maybe. :( Too many blooming weddings!

BUT I DON'T CARE because it's going to be fun anyways. I felt generous and wanted to host, so I'm catering, with a menu that will go something like this:
  • Make your own sandwiches using homemade bread (the dough is rising as we speak), with corned beef and smoked turkey, veggies galore, and tuna because I said so, dammit!
  • Store-bought but yummy cookies
  • Chips
  • Peanuts (pending no one being allergic)
  • Juice and water and maybe sweet iced tea if I can find a jug to make it in
  • uh...that's it
Not too fancy, but it'll be fun anyways.  I hope someone can bring a frisbee or ball to pass around because I have nothing.  Actually, I wonder if the Lords Above have something.  He plays sports...hmmm...I'll go bug him later.

I hope more people can make it out, otherwise I'm going to be eating sandwiches for a week, and I hate sandwich meat.  :D  Unless a certain someone shows up, in which case we might have to fight for our food.  ;)

Oh boy, the upcoming weeks have me busy!  On Monday, I'm headed to Ottawa to use the environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) until Wednesday evening.  Yay more data.

And then it's my Grampa's birthday next weekend and the whole family on this end of Canada are flocking to Sudbury to visit him, and I'm joining the mass migration.  But since it's a long train or bus ride, I've decided to just stay in Ottawa Wednesday and Thursday night and catch the bus to Sudbury on Friday morning.  And the best part is I'm not even telling him that I'm coming, so it'll be a great surprise!  :D

AND THEN, I think I'm off on another adventure the following weekend.  But I don't want to talk about that one, in case I jinx the trip.  ;D

Never mind actual thesis work and this wardrobe contest.  But it's so much better having real plans rather than a vague idea that I have stuff to do and no way of noticing when the weeks fly by.  Well, other than the changing calender.

*rubs hands in anticipation*

Just got back from seeing a local theatre production of "Dark Lady of the Sonnets", written by George Bernard Shaw.  Oh man, this thing was hilarious!  It chronicles the fictional first meeting between William Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth I, and features William buddying up a Beefeater, a catfight between Williams girlfriend Mary and the Queen, Shakespeare stealing lines spoken by the Beefeater, Mary, and the Queen herself for "inspiration" for his writing, flirty dirty William, and a battle between Queen Liz and Shakespeare over who has the more legitimate birthright.  I'd never claim to be a theatre expert, but I thought it was a hilarious and well acted performance.  After the show, several actors besides the original 4 in the play got up and did some improve for about 20 minutes, which called for some minor audience participation (mostly shouting out suggestions) and was lots of fun to watch!

The Wellington Street Theatre itself is a converted old limestone church, with the stage where the alter was and a set of riser seats where the pews were.  The old organ pipes can be seen over top of the stage, and I wonder if they're still operational.  It's a pretty building, and a great place to have a theatre, I think.

All and all, a great way to spend the afternoon.  I'm definitely going to have to try to get out to those more often, because it was so much fun!

This article makes me laugh so hard!

The fact that the Prime Minister of Canada and the President of the United States had a friendly bet over the men's Olympic hockey game where the losing country's leader has to buy the winning country's leader a case of beer?  Hilarious!   And totally how I think the relationship between our countries should be.  ;D

Well, I've definately dropped the ball with posting again, haven't I.  :)

The last 2 month and the next couple, in summary:

- Survived first round of field work.  Was relatively successful, and I'm pretty pleased with it's results.  Not so much with one of the labs dropping the ball with some of my water samples.  :P
- Oh my gosh so much writing this last month.  Term paper, report of activities, and a proposal (which will be finished tonight, I swear!).  I hate writing.  Why the heck am I doing a masters again?
- Reconnected with an old friend and going on an awesome road trip with them in September.  Am rather twitterpated, actually.  ;)
- Leaving tomorrow to celebrate/mourn a friend defending her masters thesis.  Wine will be drunk and good times will be had.
- Friday flying off to Nova Scotia to be a field lacky for a friend.  So excited, since I've never been to the east coast before.  Heck, I've never seen the ocean from the Canadian side at all.  Might even jump in!  Also, BAY OF FUNDY!  :D  Such a geo-geek.  Oh, also doing field work on arsenic-rich tailings.  Right.  Work.  ;)
- 4 days after getting back from Nova Scotia, will be off again for another round of sampling at Terra Mine.  :D  WHEE MORE FIELD WORK!
- Right after that, road trip to Manitoba, followed by a wedding and lots of friends and family!  YAAAY!

So so very excited for this next month-and-a-half!  :D

There's a dude rockin out on his electric guitar on the steps of the Salvation Army store across the street from my hotel.  He's pretty good, actually, but I wonder how long it'll take before someone complains.

Also, Yellowknifers are some of the nicest people I've ever met!

Look at my treasure find!  :D  I'm absolutely delighted with it!  Plus, $40.  How can I go wrong?  (And it rides well, so there)

Field work planning is hard. Especially when you're going to a remote area of the Northwest Territories and can't exactly pop down to the local store to pick up batteries. *stresses about MASSIVE packing and to-do lists*
