I figured if anywhere was going to overturn Prop 8, it'd be California. Shows how much I know. :(

I just don't understand. I mean, I thought there was supposed to be a separation of church and state in the US, and yet they never actually uphold that. This whole kurfuffle is based on the definition of marriage according to the bible: one man and one woman. Now, I can understand (to a point) why this was defined hundreds and hundreds of years ago, but it doesn't reflect how the world is today (I won't get into my thoughts on how the bible is outdated right now).
If people have a right to choose their religion, why should the rules of a certain religion control the lives of everyone?
I'm really not eloquent enough (and aware enough of everything that's going on) to really say what I feel. I just think it's all really stupid. I'm not gay, but I support human rights. I can't believe that a world power like the USA can and will denigh the rights of it's own people, just because some think they deserve more rights.
I'm proud to be Canadian. Yes, we have a whole bunch of issues that I don't agree with and that frustrate the hell out of me. And we really need a strong leader right now instead of the whiney brown-nosing wimps we've been stuck with the last few years, but overall I feel like I'm incredibly lucky to live here. I just wish our neighbour would get their head out of their ass.

Date: 2009-05-28 12:27 am (UTC)Hmm. Not what I've been told, but then, I'm not exactly an expert in religion. This is a really interesting article! Controvercial. The comments at the end are also interesting to read. Thanks for the link!
I admit, I was really surprised to see a comment on this. Most of the people I used to communicate with on lj have since left, so I'm not really used to people reading my posts. I'll try to be less boring! :D
