As a huge Jane Austen fan and as someone who appreciates old books, this makes my heart just a flutter. The British Library has a digital copy on their website of The History of England, as written by Jane Austen when she was 15 years old as a parody of the history texts she learned from in school. Not that I need the procrastination right now, but it'll be my reward for surviving this week, I think. :D

And just to add to that list of Things to Read When I Finish My Work, there's this article on A Proper Cup of Tea that I received in a newsletter from the Jane Austen Centre in Bath that looks interesting.

AND speaking of procrastination, I went to my very first Thesis Support Group meeting today. As much as I was dreading going, the instructors seem really enthusiastic (but not annoyingly so) and most of the people there are talkative enough that it's not painful when the instructors ask a question, and I'm not the only one there voicing my opinion.

I've always considered myself a shy woman, and while this may have been true years ago, I don't think it is any more and I need to stop identifying with it. I have no problem talking to people and trying to maintain a conversation. I don't cringe at the thought of being around a group of people and having peoples attention on me. What I think I am, more than anything, is awkward. I like talking to people, like discussing interesting topics, but I can never get the words out the way I like, and often feel, well, awkward trying. Doesn't stop me trying, mind, but it can be incredibly frustrating. It is getting better, though, and I think that's coming along with my growing confidence and awareness of who exactly I am as a person. Which is kind of cool. I almost feel like an adult! :)

Although none of what I said above helps me with public speaking. Actually, the awkwardness just shines then. Which means next weeks presentation at an upcoming conference should be interesting. But I'll talk more on that in a different post.
Alright, enough procrastinating. I have a presentation to make and a whole lot of research to do!
