Stupidity and Books (Exclusively)

Okay, change of plans. I decided to bike down to see the rest of the Canada Day celebration, and that was sort of a dumb idea when you've a sore shoulder.
This is what happened:
*~~*~~*
I did wander into the local independent bookstore afterward though, and bought Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. M and I are going to watch the movie, but he told me I had to read the book first. And I will, once I'm finished the two other books I've been working my way through for the last few months.
I'm really enjoying A Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I'm not ashamed to say that it's because of Sherlock that I'm reading it, and it's fun to see where Moffet and Gatiss took inspiration, and I especially love the things they twisted (Rache). :D I'm only about 1/4 way through it, but it's a short read, and I like Holmes and Watson in it. I see bits of them in BBC's Sherlock and John, but it's like they're not quite at ACD's characters yet, like they'll grow into them with time. It's cool to see.
The other book I've been working on (extremely slowly, but quicker since moving up to Whitehorse) is Madam Curie, a Biography by Eve Curie. It's about Marie Curie's life, from childhood on, and while I'm enjoying it now, I found the childhood part a bit dull. It's getting better now, as we look more into her rebelious spirit against the Russians who had taken over Poland and as she works towards her goal of studying in Paris, but maybe that's because I can identify more with a woman struggling to work in her chosen field of science instead of doing thankless drudgery jobs.
Anywho, I think this post has gone on long enough. My shoulder is now nicely numb from the lotion and I think it's time for a cuppa before reading? watching a movie? playing a game? Not sure yet, but whatever it is, it'll be nice and relaxing. :D
Happy Canada Day!
This is what happened:
- Ride bike down the bike path next to the road, both hands on the handles
- Purse slips off hip and slides forward, bumping against legs and generally being annoying
- Remove right hand from handles to adjust purse
- Leave only left hand on handles, which is attached to left arm, which is attached to a very sore shoulder
- Don't pay attention to the road ahead
- Ride off the curb
- Take all the impact not absorbed by the shocks with my left arm and shoulder
- Nearly puke from the pain
